2nd Sino-EU Demo Technical meeting was held in Beijing from 19 to 21 March, with a total number of 96 participants, while 50 are from Europe and 46 from China. Co-chaired by Jiangang Li and Xiang Gao from the Institute of Plasma Physics (ASIPP), Gianfranco Federici Max-Planck Institute of Plasma Physics (IPP) and Wolfgang Biel from Institute of Energy and Climate Research (IEK), the meeting discussed and communicated on CFETR and EU-DEMO fusion reactor design, which is believed to strongly promote the research of CFETR Integration Engineering Design Project.

During the meeting, researchers presented 42 reports on 15 topics: overview presentations, DEMO physics challenges beyond ITER, fusion reactor systems codes and optimisation strategy for main design parameters, plasma diagnostics and control, H&CD systems, general design integration and engineering issues, remote handling strategy, licensing issues, safety approach and analysis, breeding blanket and balance of plant design, plasma facing and structural materials options and criteria for selection, n-irradiation qualification requirements, divertor design, tritium vacuum and fuelling systems, and magnet design.

After the meeting, experts from China and Europe had in-depth discussions on bilateral cooperation on key science and technological challenges in integrated design of fusion reactors and decided that the next technical exchange meeting on CFETR and EU-DEMO fusion reactor design will be held in Europe in autumn, 2019.
