MPFus 2026 Held in Tunisia

The 6th MENA Summer School on Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy (MPFus 2026), co-organized by the Institute of Plasma Physics (ASIPP), Hefei Institutes of Physical Science，Chinese Academy of Sciences, the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and the Tunisian International Centre for Nuclear Sciences, opened recently in Tunisia. QIU Zhiyong, YANG Xin and YE Hualong from ASIPP attended the event as invited guests.

Tunisia’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research noted that the six-year-running MPFus program stands as a landmark achievement of steady trilateral collaboration among Tunisia, China and France. The initiative has consistently supported technological innovation in clean energy and low-carbon economic growth across the MENA region. The Chair of the Arab Atomic Energy Agency (AAEA) also spoke highly of the summer school’s long-term efforts in training young fusion researchers and building regional research networks, describing it as the leading international exchange platform for young fusion scientists in the MENA area.

This year’s summer school brought together master’s and doctoral students from 17 countries, mainly Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Palestine, Egypt, Jordan and other MENA nations. The program offers young researchers systematic training covering cutting-edge topics in magnetically confined plasma and fusion energy technologies.

Since its launch, the MPFus summer school has run for six consecutive sessions. It keeps regional youth updated on the latest advances in global fusion research, facilitates cross-border academic dialogue, fosters local talent for fusion science in the MENA region, and advances joint global development of clean fusion energy.
