ASIPP Welcomed Record Crowd for 2025 Public Science Day

On May 17–18, the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences,held the 2025 Public Science Day on Science Island under the theme "Exploring Science, Embracing the Future". The two-day event attracted over 60,000 visitors, setting a new attendance record.

This year, a wide range of major scientific facilities and labs were opened to the public, including the EAST, SHMFF, and several specialized research centers.

Meticulously organized, the event ensured a seamless experience—from clear signage and expert-led tours to robust safety and logistical support. Enthusiastic volunteers, armed with deep scientific knowledge, engaged visitors with patience and professionalism, keeping activities running smoothly. Over 200 scientists and volunteers from the Institute Of Plasma Physics participated, providing the public with a rare opportunity to engage directly with researchers.

The Public Science Day atASIPP offered a diverse lineup, including:

  • Close-up views of EAST, the cutting-edge tokamak facility
  • Interactive tech exhibitions, showcasing breakthroughs in fusion research
  • Popular science lectures addressing public inquiries
  • Hands-on experiments and games to spark curiosity
  • A live-streamed "Exploring the Artificial Sun" session, drawing over a million viewers
  • A "Science Fair"fostering an immersive learning atmosphere

The Chinese Academy of Sciences has hosted the Public Science Day for 20 years, becoming a major science education event with wide reach and impact. Annually, it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors. The event aims to foster a culture of scientific curiosity, promote the value of scientific inquiry, providing a platform for the public learning of latest scientific development, and nurture the seeds of scientific understanding and appreciation within the public consciousness.
