Over the past three decades, China and the United States have conducted extensive and fruitful cooperation in the field of magnetic confinement fusion. Researchers in the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP) and US colleagues jointly conducted physical experiments on the fusion devices in two countries. Addressing the common challenges, they have shared experimental data and achieved fruitful progress. At the same time, they have worked together developing fusion research components to make contributions to world’s fusion development.

In 2015, with the support of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the US Department of Energy, ASIPP and General Atomics (GA) jointly established the International Collaboration Center for Tokamak Energy Development, which is dedicated to developing safe, clean, plentiful and sustainable fusion energy for all humankind.

The year 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the China-US Scientific and Technological Cooperation Agreement. ASIPP specially planned the activities of "China-US Fusion Cooperation Week" to publicize the achievements, enhance the friendship and promote the further development of Sino-US Fusion Cooperation.(WU Sha reports)
