The 2026 China–Korea Workshop on W-Based Metal Walls and Plasma–Wall Interactions, organized by the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP), was held from July 21 to 23, 2026, at the CFAFT Campus of ASIPP in Hefei, Anhui Province. The workshop is part of a series of meetings conducted under the framework of intergovernmental scientific and technological cooperation between China and the Republic of Korea.
The workshop aimed to discuss bilateral research progress in advanced tungsten first-wall materials for tokamak devices and plasma–surface interactions under tungsten-wall conditions, as well as to explore future research directions. A total of 40 researchers attended the workshop. The Korean participants came from the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy (KFE), the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI), the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), and Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH). The Chinese participants represented the Institute of Plasma Physics and the Institute of Solid State Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei University of Technology, and Beihang University.
The workshop opened with remarks by Prof. Qian Jinping, Deputy Director of ASIPP. A total of 27 presentations were subsequently delivered, covering a wide range of topics, including the development of tungsten materials and components for tokamak devices, plasma–tungsten interactions, related diagnostic techniques, and numerical simulations. The participants held in-depth discussions on the presentations and potential directions for future collaborative research.
ASIPP and KFE have maintained a long-term partnership. The successful organization of this workshop provided a valuable platform for researchers from China and the Republic of Korea and promoted exchanges and cooperation on frontier issues related to tungsten-based metal walls and plasma–wall interactions.
