During the recent summer break, ASIPP played host to over 5000 students from more than 50 primary and secondary schools in Hefei. These young learners eagerly participated in a summer social practice program that offered them a unique opportunity to visit the "artificial sun" located on Science Island.
As a star facility on science island, Artificial sun, which in fact is a doughnut-shaped EAST reactor, has attracted attention of many students.
“We call it Artificial Sun because it simulates the fusion process within stars,” explained a volunteer.
"How is plasma suspended by a magnetic field?" "What causes temperatures to plummet to -269 degrees Celsius?" Students asked many questions in this journey.
