The First Helicon Plasma Physics and Applications Workshop was held on 23-24 September 2021 through Zoom Cloudy Meeting. It was convened by Rod Boswell (IOC) from The Australian National University and Guangnan Luo (LOC) from the Institute of Plasma Physics, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science (HFIPS), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and organized by Lei Chang’s group from the Institute of Plasma Physics.

The workshop attracts 110 registrations and ~100 audiences (~20% abroad) from nearly 30 affiliations, such as West Virginia University, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Tohoku University, Kyushu University, Auburn University from overseas and domestic universities including Soochow University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China.

The theme covers fundamental physics of helicon discharge and its applications to space electric propulsion, material processing and magnetic confinement fusion. The workshop provides an exchange platform for the experts in the field of helicon plasma and promotes the future collaboration and academic research. It was supported by the Bureau of International Cooperation (CAS) and the Department of International Cooperation (HFIPS).(Reported by WANG Guohe)
