14 EAST International Advisors met in Hefei to review EAST research progress on 15th and 16th October. The meeting was chaired by Dr Tony Taylor, GA, and co-chaired by Dr Alain Becoulet, CEA.

During the meeting, ASIPP researchers presented reports on 12 topics: EAST program overview, MCF roadmap & CFETR, H & CD scenarios, confinement & transport, MHD & 3D physics, pedestal & boundary physics, PWI & divertor, energetic particles & burning plasmas, 5 year plan, facility hardware upgrade, collaborative research and education. As appraised by IAC members, “the excellent, well prepared, and well delivered presentations provided clear explanation of EAST capabilities, and recent progress in technology and fusion science”.

Through internal discussion, listening to reports, documents review and Q & A interaction, IAC members got comprehensive information on ASIPP’s recent research on EAST, then they analyzed and evaluated the work on engineering, experiment, future plan, collaboration, education and human resources. After the meeting, all the discussion results will form a final executive report, which is, according to Director Wan, helpful and valuable to the following research of ASIPP.

EAST IAC meeting has been held every two years since establishment in 2003. Experts in fusion field come from all over the world to examine operation results, evaluate experiment proposals and formulate research and cooperation plan. (Yingkun XI reports)
