Dr. Robin Barnsley, Head of ITER Ex-vessel Diagnostic Section, together with Dr. Antoine Sirinelli, ITER RXC PA RO, visited ASIPP at the invitation of RXC PA (Radial X-Ray Camera Procurement Arrangement) from June 9 to 16.

On the first day afternoon, they attended IO-CNDA technical meeting, in which RXC PA presented recent progress and discussed with them about many key issues, including mechanics, electronics, neutronics, instrument and control design.“You have done a good job!” Robin commented,“The analysis work is quite useful.”After the meeting, they toured around EAST Tokamak and some important diagnostic facilities accompanied by Prof. Liqun Hu, Head of RXC PA of ASIPP.

During the visit, RXC group organized several discussions with two experts. They put forward many suggestions on mechanical design, thermal analysis, radiation test, neutron shielding, remote handling and operation maintenance. “We are happy to help you to prepare the preliminary design review (PDR).” Antoine said. They also visited the RXC laboratory and showed much interest in some trial components.

Antoine as well as RXC group also took part in EP#12 Port Integration PA technical meetings. The two PAs communicated and exchanged ideas on common issues such as camera cooling, shielding, cable selection and installation, etc. Jean-marc Drevon and ThibaudGiacomin, who are in charge of EP#12 PA in ITER, issued proposals for the recent difficultiesthat RXC faced.

Robin and Antoine approved of the progress RXC made and encouraged them to engage in more ITER diagnostic studies. “It is impressive!” Robin concluded the visit, “Hope to see you again in PDR.”(ZHANG Zijun reports)
