Jan Weiland, a famous expert in Tokamak plasma micro-instability and anomalous transport theory from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, is an old friend of ASIPP. Since 2012 when he was employed as CAS Foreign Expert Researcher, Weiland has continuously won sponsorship from CAS International Talent Exchange Program and worked in ASIPP five months every year.

Professor Weiland mainly uses his numerical simulation program to study collision rate’s influence on particle transport on EAST. He has made contribution in supervising young researchers’ work on Tokamak transport theory and numerical simulation and facilitating collaboration with Lehigh University in US.

A serious researcher as he is, Weiland is also described as a modest and caring person by his Chinese colleagues. “I won’t leave my wife alone in the cold winter.” He goes back to Sweden every November when winter comes.

Jan Weiland is one of the foreign experts who are joining international collaboration in ASIPP. The camera has recorded his day, working and relaxing, simple but happy.(XI Yingkun reports)
