At the closing ceremony of 2014 Fall Meeting of Chinese Physics Society on September 14, Dr. Chen Jiale, a young scientist from Theory Division, ASIPP, received the 16th CAI Shidong Award in Plasma Physics from Prof. Chen Liu, Winner of the 2012 James Clerk Maxwell Prize in Plasma Physics.

Chen Jiale is the only laureate of the award of this year. According to the award committee, Dr. Chen stands out for his “remarkable contribution to the understanding of nonlinear forces” in magnetic fusion plasma physics in his Ph.D thesis in “a precise, concise, and thorough way”. This research result is also published in the top scientific journal, Physical Review Letters.

“Truly wow,” said Chen Jiale when receiving the certificate on the stage. “The award is the great honor, I appreciate all help from my tutor, my colleagues, and Theory Division at ASIPP so I can do what I am really passionate about ”.

Cai Shidong Award in Plasma Physics was established in 1998 for recognizing graduate students and young researchers in plasma physics basic research area, especially encouraging the prominent results as well as their deep and overall understanding of plasma physics problems which they study in their Ph.D theses.

Up to now, six young students and researchers from the institute have been conferred with the Award, including Xu Guosheng, Sun Youwen. (ZHAO Dan reports)
