What do scientists want and need from the institute library in the internet age? Are they satisfied with their service? In order to find out the answers to these questions and to provide better service, the librarians conducted a survey among graduate students and staff in the institute.

The questionnaire is divided into three parts: the effective use of the resources; the need of training and the service satisfaction investigation. From the returned 341 questionnaires, 76% of users tend to the electronic database and look for more electronic journals and professional electronic books, while 28% don’t use the library due to limited database resources.

The analysis finds out that “information retrieval and utilization” tops the list of training needs, followed closely by “analysis and research on the frontier sciences” and “Endnote software for document management”. But in what way? Most users prefer the online tutoring; brochures and seminars are also helpful.

94% of respondents are satisfied with the library service, according to the survey. However, Li Liangliang, head of the institute library, says that they are happy with the result, but there is s “still a lot more to do” for the students and staff. (ZHAO Dan reports)
