Dr. Alexander Alekseev, ITER DDG Director for TOKAMAK Directorate, together with Dr. Songtao Wu, ITER IO-DA Coordination Head, visited ASIPP from March 28 to 29. The two-day visit was focused on a report on the ITER construction progress in ASIPP and a discussion on the overall ITER schedule.
In the first day’s morning meeting, Prof Jiangang Li, director of ASIPP, firstly introduced to the guests the ASIPP and EAST progress. It was followed by a four-section report on ITER procurement package (PA) progress and management at ASIPP, respectively given by Prof. Yuntao Song on feeder, Prof. Weiyue Wu on correction coil, Prof. Yu Wu on superconductors and Dr. Ge Gao on AC/DC. Ms. Honglian Chen also gave a presentation on ITER PA QA/QC systems.
For the next meeting on the second day, Prof. Songtao Wu made an introduction to ITER schedule status and control strategy framed by ITER Organization as well as the discussion results from the second special meeting of ITER Management Advisory Committee (MAC-S2) which was held from March 18 to 19.
According to Prof. Weiyue Wu, the ASIPP Correction Coil Team has conducted a relatively large amount of R&D work for correction coil and has made rapid progress on different processes, including fabrication equipment and manufacturing drawings. In 2013, most of the qualification for manufacturing process will be finished and the manufacturing of first-of series coils will be started.
As for the superconductors, Dr. Yu Wu, as the Principal Investigator for cable-in-conduit conductors (CICC) PA, mentioned that a special agency had been set up for ITER conductor manufacture at ASIPP and qualified conductors could be delivered on time.
The PF AC/DC convertor PA was also on schedule and the power supply group was trying to establish a project management system to monitor the schedule, cost and quality of the whole process, said Dr. Ge Gao, a representative of the group.
Prof. Songtao Wu, after hearing the report on the current construction status in ASIPP, told the ASIPP scientists that the recently-held MAC-S2 meeting urged the ITER partners to bring the ITER project back to its schedule. Specific measures have also been discussed in the meeting, and the committee will come to a final decision in the next MAC meeting in this May, according to Prof. Songtao Wu.
During this visit, the guests spent two afternoons touring around the labs and manufacturing workshops to get a first-hand data on ASIPP ITER PA status.(Yujie Peng reports)
