CAS Knowledge Innovation Program’s project “Pilot R&D on the Dye-sensitized Solar Cell (DSC)” passed the concluding evaluation on January 28-29, 2013.

Prof. Songyuan Dai, the Principal Investigator of the project and key persons of its three sub-projects, Prof. Peng Wang from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (CIAC) of CAS, and Prof. Jian Weng from Institute of Plasma Physics, CAS (ASIPP) introduced the research progress to the scientific committee. After the inspection to the 0.5 MW DSC pilot production line and the 5 KW power station and the inquiry, the scientific committee was satisfied with the research progress and believed the goal had been reached.

Since the project started in 2008, the project team has applied for 28 patents and published 67 journal articles. The 0.5 MW glass substrate based DSC production line was also successfully built.

The project was undertaken by ASIPP and CIAC, CAS. The former focused on the polit R&D and the latter focused on the preparation of new dye sensitizers and electrolyte system.

The scientific committee was composed of eight scientists from Institute of Semiconductors, CAS, Nankai University, University of Science and Technology of China, Sichuan University, Fuzhou University, and Hefei University of Technology. Prof. Ying Zhao, vice-director of Solar Photovoltaic Committee in China Renewable Energy Society, from Nankai University, hosted the meeting. (Fantai Kong Reports)
