EAST Meets WEST

"How delightful it is to have friends coming from afar!” Prof. Li Jiangang, director of ASIPP, quoted from Confucian Analects to express his great happiness at the visit of French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission delegation (CEA) to ASIPP on Jan. 30.

The delegation is headed by Dr. Gabiele Fioni, director of the Physical Sciences Division of CEA and accompanied by Mr. Pierre Yves Coedier, Nuclear Counselor at the French Embassy in Beijing, Dr. Alain Bécoulet, director CEA-IRFM, and Dr. Zou Xiaolan.

One of the main missions of the visit is to promote the cooperation between ASIPP and CEA-IRFM on EAST and WEST, the device which IRFM is now building.　

During the visit, the two sides held discussion on the possibility of building a joint lab, and decided to work together on ICRH antenna and SS technologies. Prof. Li thanked CEA for their long term support and expressed our willingness in providing support for the WEST program.

Counselor Coedier is very pleased to see “EAST meets WEST”. The coming official cooperation “between EAST and WEST”, according to Prof. Li, will be “good for all fusion communities”. (Peng Yujie reports)
