Learn From the Others

To better conduct ITER power supply procurement package, 16 scientists and technicians from Power Supply& Control Division went to Beijing, visited China-EPRI Electric Power Engineering Co., Ltd (EPRI) on November 26, to draw on the company’s knowhow on manufacture process and technical standards, QA control and management, and test facilities usages. The project managers from ITER CN-DA also joined the study visit

Prof. Tang Guangfu, General Manager of EPRI showed ASIPP staff the company's production workshop and power electronic laboratories; he introduced their products’ manufacturing process and quality management. Later that day, both sides exchanged their thoughts and ideas on project operation and implementation. ASIPP scientists found the company’s “Extension supervision” model especially useful. The model stresses an extended supervision from supplier classification, purchasing, assessment and sustained improvement all the way to product manufacture, after-services.

EPRI is a high-tech enterprise, which provides a rich portfolio of products covering HVDC Classic converter valve, HVDC Flexible converter valve, key DC yard equipment as well as control and protection system. They are equipped with the world’s biggest workshop for HVDC Classic and HVDC Flexible converter valves, a laboratory for testing products and tools. By visiting EPRI, participants will imbibe the company’s design, manufacture and QA control methods, for better complete ITER power supply PA. (Wang Guohe reports)
