Two joint Sino-German research projects in the field of plasma-wall interaction (PWI) from ASIPP have been approved recently by Sino-German Center for Research Promotion, who funded four PWI projects this year.

These two three-year projects are “Simulation of PWI behavior in tokamaks”, led by Prof. Jiangang Li and Dr. A. Kirschner from Forschungszentrum Juelich (FZJ), and “Joint tokamak experimental studies on PWI behavior of tungsten PFMC”, led by Prof. Guangnan Luo and Dr. K. Krieger from Max-Planck-Institut für Plasmaphysik (IPP). The edge plasma behavior and plasma-wall interaction in tokamak will be investigated both from modeling and experiments in the frame of the two projects.

“Thanks to the long-time fruitful bilateral cooperation among ASIPP, IPP and FZJ, and joint efforts, we succeeded in application”, said Prof Luo. “The projects will enhance the collaboration between China and Germany, and promote the fusion PWI research in both countries.”

Sino-German Center for Research Promotion is founded as a joint venture supported by Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).The aim is to promote scientific cooperation between Germany and China in the fields of natural sciences, life sciences, management and engineering.

Sino-German Center has sponsored two Sino-German PWI workshops, held in Hefei in 2009 and in Garching in 2010, it will continue to support the third one, to be held in Dalian, China in November. (Ding Rui reports)
