The Magnetic Fusion Theory and Simulation Workshop of the International Advisory Committee (IAC) and Scientific Program Committee (SPC) of Center for Magnetic Fusion Theory (CMFT) was held on July 16– 18, 2012. At this workshop more than 50 scientists met at the Institute of Plasma Physics, CAS to discuss on a broad range of research topics in the magnetic fusion.

In his opening speech, Prof Jiangang Li, Director of ASIPP, extended a warm welcome to all the participants from home and abroad, and also shared the significant progress which has been made on EAST during recent experimental campaign in 2012 with all participants.

Prof Qin Hong, Head of CMFT, started the workshop with an overview talk about the research activities of CMFT, then a total of 21 oral presentations in three different topics followed his talk. The workshop highlighted developments in the theory of magnetic fusion with, in particular, an emphasis on developing advanced computational methods to simulate physics and technology processes pertaining to the large-scale experimental reactor, ITER. After the group discussion, Prof Nathaniel Fisch, chairman of International Advisory Committee, and Prof Hu Xiwei, gave their suggestion and advice to CMFT in a written report.

The success of this workshop has a positive effect on the future research and development in CMFT, and will also strengthen the cooperation between domestic and foreign counterparts. (Zhao Dan reports)
