Sino-Japan Post-CUP (Core-university Program on Plasma and Nuclear Fusion) Coordinator Meeting was held in Guilin on November 3, 2011, marking the official launch of Post-CUP program. The meeting was cohosted by Prof. Shigeru Morita, Japanese coordinator from National Institute of Fusion Science (NIFS) and Prof. Hu Liqun, Chinese coordinator from ASIPP, altogether 19 key persons from two countries participated.

Prof. Hu firstly gave a welcome speech to all the participants, then Prof. Morita introduced the research style and procedure of this program. Every key person made a report to communicate the research plan to each other for the next physical year.

The Sino-Japan Core-University Program (CUP) on Plasma and Nuclear Fusion, supported by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), began its implementation in 2001. With NIFS and ASIPP acting the "core" roles, nearly 60 universities and institutions in China and Japan have been involved in the program with more than annual 1200 person-day exchange in the form of scientific visits, joint experiments, seminars/workshops, and international conferences. In 10 years, over 20 workshops were held and over 1300 joint papers were published.

Before the conclusion of the ten-year CUP cooperation program at the end of 2010, Directors of ASIPP and NIFS had expressed their satisfaction with this intensive and productive bilateral cooperation and wish to keep the momentum and further the cooperation, hence the Post-CUP program.

The Post-CUP research topics will focus on tokamak experiment, plasma wall interactions, engineering and theory, the amount of exchanges will maintain the level of CUP. More importantly, the Program will stress and enhance the training of young talents.(Wang Yuan Reports)
