ASIPP self-developed continuous wave (CW) microwave ceramic windows on EAST 4.6GHz / 4MW Lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) system passed the 4.6GHz/ 250kW high power test on September 16. The pulse duration under full 250kW was 1000s, and the high-power experiment lasted one hour.

Ceramic windows are an important but fragile microwave device in LHW transmission system, and has a great impact on the reliability and security of LHCD system. At present, most ceramic windows used in LHCD systems with the same magnitude of microwave power are operated in short pulse. Due to difficult technology in CW operation, only a few of international companies can provide high power long pulse ceramic windows, and their price is consequently not cheap.

However, EAST 4.6GHz LHCD system requires 48 microwave ceramic windows with power of 250KW CW. To solve the problem, not evade the problem, this is what EAST LHCD group did. After nearly two-year hard-work, combined with extensive research and joint effort with the technical staff of Hefei KeYe Electrical Physical Equipment Manufacturing Limited Company, LHCD group accomplished the trial productions of ceramic window with low cost, and their efforts pays back.

The successful design and test of 4.6GHz high-power CW microwave windows mark the end of forming crafts R&D and 4.6GHz/4MW LHCD system prototype, laying a solid foundation for the future construction of the EAST LHCD system. (Wang Xiaojie Reports)
