Dr. William Goldstein Visits ASIPP

Dr. William Goldstein, Associate Director for Physical and Life Sciences of LLNL, visited ASIPP on April 22. He was warmly welcomed by Prof. Li Jiangang, Director of ASIPP, Prof. Wu Yican, Deputy Director of ASIPP and Prof. Huang Qunying, Head of Fusion Design Study/Fusion Digital Simulation Division (FDS).

Prof. Li firstly gave a presentation about EAST, introducing EAST experiments, latest achievement and contribution to ITER, and Dr. Goldstrein chimed in with questions and ideas. Talking of EAST’s five year plan (2011-2015), Prof. Li said “EAST can play a key role in advance long pulse high performance plasma for ITER”, which Dr. Goldstein showed great interest in.

When visiting EAST building, Dr. Goldstein was very “impressed” when learning that ASIPP has successfully developed EAST Tokamak by self-reliance and hard work. Later he watched HT-7 discharge in the HT-7 control room.

During his visit, Dr. Goldstein gave a lecture entitled with “Prospects for Thermonuclear Fusion on NIF”, and had a discussion with FDS team on possible future cooperation. (Wang Yuan Reports)
