A 25-channel Thomson Scattering Diagnostic System (TS) has been developed for EAST in ASIPP. After one year commissioning and trial running on EAST during this autumn experiment campaign, the system is proved to be capable of measuring plasma electronic temperature.

TS is recognized as the most accurate method to measure plasma electronic temperature, it can also demonstrate plasma density layout. It is one of most technically difficult diagnostics on tokamak devices. Dr Chung Lih Hsieh, a retired TS expert from GA, congratulated ASIPP TS team at one of EAST morning meetings on the no-easy achievement.

"The success is the product of the cooperation with GA, of over 10 years' unrelenting efforts of institute scientists and students," said Dr Zang Qing, EAST TS team leader, and he added that they still had lots of work to do and a long way to go to catch up with the world level, and they would continue their efforts.
