2004 International Cooperation Prize on Science and Technology Ceremony was held in Shanghai Science and Technology Museum on 7 September. Doctor Kenneth W Gentle, Doctor Zhang Rujing and Doctor Kenji Ekuan won the prize.  Vice Minister of  Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Cheng Jinpei and vice mayor of Shanghai, Mr. Yan Juanqi,  issued the prize.

Doctor Kenneth W. Gentle, the leader of the University of Texas, Fusion Research Center (FRC), one of the world-famous experts on nuclear fusion, is  the member of the international consulting committee for Chinese Meg-Science project, EAST(HT-7U). With his support, Chinese scientists and technicians put betatron heating equipments into HT-7U Superconducting tokamak experiments with the  cooperation of FRC. So that, plasma of high quality was obtained. The parameters of Chinese nuclear fusion equipments increased. The standard of Chinese magnetic confinement nuclear fusion theory and experimental research leveled up. The distance of Chinese nuclear fusion research and the research of foreign countries was shortened. New breakthrough was made in nuclear fusion experimental equipments.

Doctor Gentle also helped Anhui  Ion Biological laboratory and built a set of 4 MeV monopolic static generators for Zhengzhou University. He helped train doctors on nuclear fusion in FRC with financial support. With his help, the equipments he presented to China accounted to ,26,000,000 US dollars.(Zong He and Shi Lin report.)
